OS Grid ref:- SJ7371

Attractive Shakerley Mere Country Park, is situated is located close to the M6 motorway, just east of the small Cheshire village of Goostry.

Shakerley Mere

The mere, which has 2 good car parks, is a former quarry for sand, extracted to make coloured glass. When production ceased in the early 1960's it was allowed to fill up with water. The wide expanse of water forms a roughly triangular shape of about half a mile on each side. The Mere is ringed by a curtain of trees and there are plenty of picnic tables. A popular spot with anglers, the mere is circled by good flat paths suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Birds resident on Shakerley Mere include cormorants, black headed gulls, great crested grebes, heron, oystercatchers and kingfishers.
